Apples and Desires

Apple

I have had a strong ascetic energy since I was young.

I don’t know where it came from or why it exists. It seems to be something instinctive.

There are so many things I restrict myself from doing because I know that, if I let myself, I could become easily addicted to almost anything.

This is why, when I read about the Garden of Eden, and Adam and Eve eating the apple, it inspired me to think:

How many APPLES do I wish I had never eaten?

I understand why a human might be prohibited from trying an apple.

Not because it gives us wisdom.

But because it is so delicious that, once you have tasted it, you can no longer live peacefully without knowing it exists.

Your snake of desire now knows something exists.

And from that moment on, you have to spend part of your life fighting that snake.

So I would say that human beings suffer because we have this snake of desire within us.

And it may not be an exaggeration to say that every human being is an addict.

We become addicted to something, and then we suffer because we cannot quit.

I want to be mindful of every apple I choose to take from now on.
